Start with the cot’s requirements, then compare construction, cover care and the complete delivered price. A familiar size label or a large discount is not enough to confirm that a baby mattress is suitable for your cot.

1. Check the cot before comparing mattresses

Find the cot’s model name and manual. Record the permitted mattress length, width and maximum thickness. Measure the internal space where the mattress sits, rather than the outside of the frame. Our cot-measuring guide explains what to send us if you need help.

Do not assume that a mattress advertised as “standard” fits every cot. If you use a travel cot or playpen, follow its manufacturer’s mattress instructions; a second or thicker mattress may not be permitted.

2. Understand the sleep-surface requirements

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends a firm, flat infant sleep surface, a properly fitting mattress and a fitted sheet, with no pillows, bumpers or loose bedding in the sleep space. Marketing words such as “breathable” do not establish safety compliance or replace these precautions. Read the AAP’s explanation of infant safe sleep. 3. Compare the practical differences in our range

4. Separate a washable cover from a washable mattress

5. Compare the amount you will actually pay

Compare the same mattress, size and included accessories on each website or marketplace. Check the selling price, the voucher you qualify for, delivery to your postcode and the final checkout total. The crossed-out reference price is not the amount you pay, and a subscriber offer may require eligibility that a public offer does not.
